MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin football team has released its loaded 2019 schedule which features road matchups at Southeastern Conference foes Florida and Kentucky, a home non-conference FCS matchup along with eight Ohio Valley Conference matchups.
Despite a disappointing 2018 season which featured numerous crippling injuries, the Skyhawks return a solid foundation and a nationally recognized recruiting class to build upon for success in 2019. While the route to a playoff berth and a conference championship is winding, look for UT Martin to return to its proper place amongst the league's elite.
UT Martin will officially open the season on Thursday, Aug. 29 when playing host to Southland Conference member Northwestern State. The matchup marks the first meeting between the two programs in series history.
The following week, the Skyhawks will pack up and head south for a matchup in The Swamp against SEC foe and Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl champion Florida on Saturday, Sept. 7. The Skyhawks and Gators have never met previously.
The Skyhawks will then return to action on Saturday, Sept. 14 with a trip to Missouri Valley Conference foe Southern Illinois. The game will serve as the first meeting between the two programs since squaring off in the 2006 FCS Playoffs - a game in which the Salukis won 36-30.
UT Martin will open OVC play against Murray State at home on Saturday, Sept. 28. The Skyhawks will also host OVC foes Eastern Illinois (Saturday, Oct. 19), Jacksonville State (Saturday, Nov. 2) and Tennessee State (Saturday, Nov. 16). Meanwhile, UT Martin will travel to league foes Eastern Kentucky (Saturday, Oct. 5), Tennessee Tech (Oct. 12), Southeast Missouri (Oct. 26) and Austin Peay (Nov. 9).
The Skyhawks will wrap up the 2019 regular season with a matchup against Citrus Bowl champion Kentucky on Saturday, Nov. 23. The contest will mark the second meeting between the two programs in series history, previously meeting Aug. 30, 2014.
