BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – One day after wrapping up a wire-to-wire victory at the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate, University of Tennessee at Martin senior Jack Story was crowned as the Ohio Valley Conference's Golfer of the Week today.
This marks the third time this season that Story has been awarded the OVC's top weekly honor, in addition to being named OVC Golfer of the Month in September. He is now tied with Ben Reeves for the third-most OVC weekly mentions in Skyhawk history while joining Hunter Richardson and Brendon Caballero as the only UT Martin players to ever win the accolade at least three times in a single season.
Playing in his hometown of Dickson, Tenn., Story was instrumental in the Skyhawks' sweep of the team and individual championships at Greystone Golf Club. He picked up his second medalist victory of the season with a final score of 207 (-9), leading the tournament field in par-4 scoring (3.73, -8) while ranking second with 15 birdies.
Story's 66 in the first round was tied for the lowest score in the 71-man tournament field, as it was capped off with an eagle on his final hole (a par-5 playing at 520 yards). He followed that with rounds of 70 on Monday afternoon before a 71 on Tuesday morning – shooting under par for each round of the event.
Story's strong play at the top of UT Martin's scoring lineup helped the Skyhawks win their third straight tournament with an 844 (-20), outlasting an 11-team field that included eight OVC schools. The team's win marked only the second time in the last 11 years that UT Martin has captured three consecutive tournament titles (last occurring in October 2017).
Overall, Story leads the OVC with a 69.6 stroke average while finishing in the top-eight in all five Skyhawk tournaments so far in 2019-20.
UT Martin concludes the fall portion of its schedule next week when it travels to the TVA Community Credit Union Invitational in Killen, Ala. The event – which is hosted by North Alabama – will take place on Oct. 21-22.
