MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin men's basketball team got its 2018-19 season underway as it hit the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center floor for the first team practice this morning.
Third-year Skyhawk head coach Anthony Stewart returns four letterwinners from last season's squad, including leading returning scorer and rebounder Fatodd Lewis (12.4 points, 7.3 rebounds per game as a redshirt junior in 2017-18). Senior Delfincko Bogan (11.2 points per game in Ohio Valley Conference play, OVC-high 1.9 steals per game), senior Jailen Gill (OVC-best .662 field goal percentage in league play, team-high 29 blocks) and sophomore Parrish Hewitt (six double-digit scoring games, OVC Freshman of the Week on Dec. 11) also return as the four returners combined to make 52 starts last season.
The UT Martin backcourt will also receive a lift from a pair of Division-I transfers who sat out last season. Kevin Little (13.6 points per game over two seasons at Maine, 2014-15 America East Conference All-Rookie) and Preston Parks (17.4 points per game in 36 career games at The Citadel, 2016-17 Southern Conference Freshman of the Year) will each make their Skyhawk debuts this season.
A half-dozen UT Martin newcomers will also look to make an impact in 2018-19 after successful junior college careers. Quintin Dove, Derek Hawthorne, Jr., Charles Henderson, Jr., Jeremy Joyner and Trenten Williams enter their junior seasons while Minfeke Sanoe will be a sophomore this season. Parker Stewart will sit out the 2018-19 campaign after transferring in from Pittsburgh, where he ranked second in the Atlantic Coast Conference in three-point field goal percentage (.425) in league play as a freshman.
The Skyhawks have 37 days until their first exhibition game, as they face St. Louis College of Pharmacy on Nov. 1. The 2018-19 season officially opens at home against Cumberland on Tuesday, Nov. 6.
