
UT MARTIN TENNIS CLAIMS SECOND STRAIGHT OVC WIN WITH 5-2 VICTORY AT TENNESSEE STATE

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin tennis team dialed up its second Ohio Valley Conference victory in a row this afternoon, turning away the Tennessee State Tigers by a 5-2 margin at Hadley Park.
For the third consecutive match, the Skyhawks (3-12, 3-4 OVC) opened with early momentum by nabbing the doubles point. Asel Jumamukhambetova and Jemima Potter began the day with a 6-1 victory at No. 1 while the No. 2 team of Mizuki Sakurai and Olha Burak closed out the doubles portion of the match with a 6-4 triumph. UT Martin was on the verge of a doubles sweep before the match was halted as Andrea Plantada and Amelia Campbell were ahead by a 6-5 margin at No. 3.
Jumamukhambetova began singles with a convincing victory at No. 1, posting a 6-1, 6-2 win. At No. 4, Plantada came away with a 6-4, 6-4 win before Potter's 7-5, 6-4 victory at No. 2 officially clinched the Skyhawk win. UT Martin added another victory at No. 3, as freshman Jule Streif gutted out a 6-4, 4-6, 10-8 win in her OVC debut.
The Skyhawks close out the 2018 regular season next week with a pair of road matchups. UT Martin travels to SIUE on Friday, April 13 before taking on Eastern Illinois on Saturday, April 14.
