Edmiston came to UT Martin as a 150-pound walk-on athlete and quickly established himself as an outstanding player in the program. As a sophomore, he led all collegians in the state in scoring and was runner-up the following year.

Edmiston gained almost 1,500 yards rushing in his career. He averaged one TD per game over a 26-game stretch and also was the team's punter for three years. Edmiston was a unanimous all-conference choice and also was an honorable mention Little All-American selection. He also ran the 100-yard dash and participated in the broad jump on the track team.
