Mary Kate Long Arend

Long (Arend) established herself as one of the top student-athletes in UT Martin history for her outstanding performances, both on the basketball court and in the classroom. Many of Mary Kate's career records still stand: career scorer (1,754 points), rebounder (1,318), blocked shots leader (203), along with field goals made (747) and attempted (1,404). She was a three-time All-Gulf South Conference selection and was twice the GSC Commissioner’s Award winner for athletics and academics in her junior and senior years and won the Bettye Giles Award her sophomore and senior years for being UTM’s outstanding female athlete.
She became the second women’s player to have her jersey (No. 25) retired. She also represented UT Martin as a member of the United States Olympic Sports Festival team in 1987 and was twice a member of the South team in the Illinois Prairie State Games.
