Davis was a member of the UT Martin rifle team from 1984-89. He qualified for four NCAA championships, and was a member of the first Division II rifle team to ever qualify for an NCAA rifle championship. He was a firing member of the school record smallbore (1989 NCAA championship) and air rifle (1989 Withrow Invitational) teams. He was named to all-conference teams in 1986 and 1989. He was named an All-America in 1989. He finished among the nation's top 30 shooters from 1986-1989.
