Underwood Poteete (Veazey) was a four-year standout with the Lady Pacer basketball program. She was the first female recipient of an athletic grant-in-aid to the University.
She was named the Lady Pacers' Most Valuable Player following her freshman season. She earned a pair of All-Christmas Tournament honors the following two years and was Most Outstanding Player in the Lady Pacers' 1978 Tournament. Underwood-Poteete received the Bettye L. Giles Award in 1980, which is annually presented to the University's top female athlete. She also received the Superior Academic Achievement honor for Women Athletes and named to Who's Who in 1980.
