The West Tennessee Agriculture Pavilion was completed in May of 1984. The building is a multi-purpose facility consisting of 82,000 square feet. It contains a 24,000 square foot arena and seats 3,000 people. The pavilion also includes an animal holding area with 32 stalls, a tack room, and animal and grooming areas. A 150 stall barn was built adjacent to the pavilion in 1989. The building was officially named the McWherter Agriculture Complex in 1995 in honor of Governor Ned Ray McWherter. A variety of activities including livestock, horse and agricultural shows, as well as concerts and community activities are held in the pavilion.
The Ned McWherter Agricultural Complex, named for Tennessee Governor Ned Ray McWherter (1987-1995), includes the West Tennessee Agricultural Pavilion and Stalling Facility. The building, originally constructed in 1984, houses the N.W. “Doc” Robinson Arena, named for the longtime animal science professor and rodeo adviser, and the Wooten Academic Complex, named for John Herbert Wooten. The arena is home to Tennessee’s only collegiate rodeo team and the Skyhawk women’s equestrian team.
