The Elam Center was named in honor of longtime UT Board of Trustees member Col. Tom Elam and his wife, Kathleen. Col. Elam was a graduate of UT and a prominent Union City attorney. The Elam Center houses the UT Martin Office of Intercollegiate Athletics, office of Campus Recreation activities and the Department of Health and Human Performance. The three areas work together to strategically utilize the classrooms and labs, weight room, swimming pool, racquetball courts, indoor walking track, dance studio and multi-purpose room.
The UT Martin women’s and men's basketball teams call the Elam Center home with all home games in being played in Skyhawk Arena. In addition Skyhawk Arena which holds a seating capacity of approximately 4,300 seats, the Elam Center also houses both team's locker rooms, training facility and weight room.
The playing floor in Skyhawk Arena was named in honor of distinguished Hall of Fame UT Martin women's basketball alum Pat Head Summitt, an UT Martin alumnus (1974) and coach emeritus of the Tennessee Lady Vols and winner of eight national championships.
