
UT MARTIN GOLF SECURES BACK-TO-BACK UNDER PAR ROUNDS ON DAY 1 OF BUBBA BARNETT INTERCOLLEGIATE

JONESBORO, Ark. – The University of Tennessee at Martin golf team turned in two red scorecards today as the Skyhawks shot a 570 (-6) in the first 36 holes at the Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate held at RidgePointe Country Club.
UT Martin was one of seven teams who shot under par in the first two rounds as tournament host Arkansas State (541, -35) leads the 16-team event. The Skyhawks began the day with a 283 (-5) this morning before carding a 287 (-1) during the afternoon round.
Three UT Martin golfers collected below-par scores in Round 1, led by Dax Isbell's 69 (team-best five birdies). Ethan Ray and Grant Phillips each managed four birdies and followed with scores of 71 (-1) while Jonathan Xoinis' even-par 72 (including three birdies on a five-hole stretch on the front-nine) wrapped up the team scoring.
The second round also featured three more individual red tallies for the Skyhawks. Jacob Uehlein sank a team-high five birdies, whittling 10 strokes off his first-round score for a team-best 69 with Isbell (70) and Xoinis (71) additionally recorded strong rounds with three birdies apiece. Ray (three birdies) and Phillips (one birdie) each tied for the fourth countable score with a 77.
Jackson Twerdahl is also one of eight designated individuals in the 88-man field. The redshirt junior from Nolensville, Tenn. shot a 73 with four of his five birdies on the day coming in the first round before generating a 76 in the afternoon session.
Isbell is the top UT Martin representative on the player leaderboard as the sophomore out of Cumming, Ga. is 12th with a 139 (-5). Xoinis is sitting at a 143 (-1) and is followed by a three-way Skyhawk tie between Uehlein, Ray and Phillips (148, +4). Twerdahl has pieced together a 149 (+5) through the opening two rounds.
Ray and Isbell share the team lead with nine birdies apiece while Xoinis has compiled a team-best 25 pars. Isbell leads or is tied for the best UT Martin averages in par-3 scoring (3.00, E), par-4 scoring (3.90, -2) and par-5 scoring (4.63, -3). Phillips is tied for the team lead in par-3 scoring and the duo of Uehlein/Ray have equaled Isbell for the best par-5 scoring average on the squad.
The five Skyhawks in the scoring lineup will tee off at 8 a.m. tomorrow on Holes No. 5-8 alongside New Orleans (564, -12), Belmont (567, -9) and Kansas City (576, E). Twerdahl will start his day on Hole No. 18.
