BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Less than 24 hours after he earned medalist honors and helped lead the University of Tennessee at Martin to the team championship at the TSU Big Blue Intercollegiate, Brendon Caballero has been recognized as the adidas Ohio Valley Conference Male Golfer of the Week.

This marks the second OVC weekly accolade in the career of Caballero, who also won the honors on March 7, 2012. This is also the second time that a UT Martin golfer has been named OVC Golfer of the Week this season, as Tyler Guy nabbed the award on Oct. 9.

Caballero posted his second career victory on Tuesday at the President’s Reserve Course at the Hermitage Golf Club, carding rounds of 69, 67 and 74. He led after each of the first two rounds and was never challenged on the final day, ending his tournament with a final tally of 210 (-6), which was five strokes better than anybody else in the 83-golfer field.

Paced by the steady play of Caballero, the Skyhawks earned the team championship with a final score of 870 (+6). UT Martin won the tournament by five shots and defeated 13 other schools, including five OVC programs. It was the second victory of the season for the Skyhawks, as they also brought home the Wasioto Winds Fall Kickoff Invitational hosted by Morehead State on Sept. 9-10.

A junior out of Brentwood, Caballero has played 29 rounds this season and currently ranks sixth in the OVC in scoring average (73.3).

UT Martin now prepares for the OVC championships, which will take place on April 25-27 at the Shoals’ Fighting Joe course at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Muscle Shoals, Ala.
