MARTIN, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee at Martin softball team will open the home portion of its 2014 schedule with a mid-week doubleheader against Saint Louis on Tuesday, March 11. First pitch from Bettye Giles Field is slated for 3 p.m.

The Skyhawks (8-12-1) most recently capped of their fifth and final non-conference tournament of the season with a successful appearance in the UCF Spring Fling in Orlando, Fla. The Skyhawks began the tournament with two big wins behind strong pitching performances and timely hitting. UT Martin led off the tournament with a 7-1 victory over Colgate before tallying a 2-1 win over Western Carolina in the night cap on Friday evening. The Skyhawks capped off the tournament with a hard-fought 8-7 loss at the hands of Troy in the eighth inning.

Offensively, the Skyhawks are led by senior Wade who maintains a .377 batting average while tallying a team-leading 26 hits. Wade has tallied two doubles, two triples, a home run and four RBIs on the year. Deven Wilson joins Wade over the .300 mark, tallying 18 hits, seven doubles and 11 RBIs. Last week saw both Lauren Smith and Stephanie Nidiffer combine to drive in nine runs.

In the circle the Skyhawks have gone to Wiegand who has posted impressive numbers as a freshman. Wiegand leads the team with a 5-3 record, 10 starts, seven complete games and 62.1 innings of work. She has held opponents to a .219 batting average while posting a 2.70 ERA. Tate joins Wiegand with four complete games, posting a 3-2 record while tallying a 3.30 ERA in 29.2 innings of work.
