OVC Report

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – The Ohio Valley Conference announced today that the University of Tennessee at Martin women’s basketball forward Ashia Jones has garnered her third adidas OVC Freshman of the Week honor.

Leading the team to the program’s first 9-0 start to open OVC play in school history, Jones has been key component in league’s top scoring offense. The Skyhawks have tallied three consecutive games in triple figures, including four of the last five games. This marks the first time in program history that the Skyhawks have scored 100-plus in five games in a single season.

Jones has been a model of consistency during league play for the Skyhawks, becoming an integral part of the rotation. The freshman tossed in 19 points and five rebounds in the win over SIU Edwardsville. She set a new career high on Monday night, scoring 27 points on 11-of-15 shooting while notching three steals in the win over Eastern Illinois.

Since entering conference play, Jones has tallied seven consecutive games in double figures, including four straight games in which the forward has scored 15 points or more. This marks the third time this season that Jones has taken home OVC weekly honors, all coming in the last four weeks.

Jones and the Skyhawks will be back in action next Monday, Feb. 3 when they travel to Eastern Kentucky at 6 p.m. Central.
