MARTIN, Tenn. – After a two-month layoff from competitive action, the University of Tennessee at Martin equestrian team returns to action this weekend against Delaware State (Friday, Jan. 24) and No. 6 Georgia (Saturday, Jan. 25) at the Ned McWherter Agricultural Pavilion. Both events are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
The weekend ignites a four-date homestand to kick off the 2014 spring season. The Skyhawks concluded the fall season with a 2-4-2 overall record, winning two of its final three in convincing fashion – 11-8 over Southern Methodist and 13-3 over Miami (Ohio).
In Hunterseat, Reid Rickett has tallied six points (two MOP’s) in equitation, followed by Mykaela Van Selus and Hunter Ralston, who have each registered four points and one MOP apiece. Kaylan Herbst and Erin Douglas have also notched two points. In equitation over fences, Ralston has a team-high five points (with one MOP) to her credit while Rickett and Nora Wilson (two MOP’s) have accumulated three points. Douglas has won two points while Caitlyn Epperson has earned one point for UT Martin.
The Skyhawk Western squad has been paced by Kenzie Perry’s five points and one MOP in horsemanship. Laurel Ellzey (four points, one MOP), Cora Rogalski (three points) and Brittany Woodard (three points, one MOP) have also been frequent contributors in horsemanship, while Jordan Elmore (two points, one MOP) and Katie Kallevig (one point) have also enjoyed success. In reining, Megan Marie Foley accounts for a team-best four points and two MOP’s, followed closely behind by Sam Knight’s three points and two MOP’s. Melanie Aiosa and Laney Hixson have also earned two points each to lead the Skyhawks.
