MARTIN, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee at Martin women’s basketball team will return home to host Southeastern Conference power Missouri in the friendly confines of the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center on Saturday, Nov. 23. Tip-off between the Skyhawks and Tigers is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The Skyhawks (3-1) are coming off a successful stint in the Preseason Women’s National Invitation Tournament, picking up two wins before earning the team’s first road victory of the season in a showdown at Arkansas State, 75-66, on Tuesday evening. UT Martin showed incredible accuracy from beyond the three-point mark, making 12 three-pointers in the game and setting a new Convocation Center record for most treys by a visiting team.

UT Martin was led by the dynamic duo of senior guards Jasmine Newsome and Heather Butler. Ranking second and third in the Ohio Valley Conference in scoring, respectively, Newsome and Butler combined for 48 of the Skyhawks 75 points. Butler stuff the statsheet with 25 points, nine rebounds, five assists and three steals while Newsome accounted for 23 points and 11 rebounds.

With Butler’s 25 point performance against Arkansas State, the guard jumped into eighth place with 2,193 career points on the OVC’s all-time top-10 scoring list. Heading into the game, Butler ranked 10th before surpassing Gray Harris (Southeast Missouri, 1992-96) and Chynna Bozeman (Morehead State, 2007-11) on the all-time list.

Missouri (4-0) comes into the matchup off a Thursday night victory over Southeast Missouri, 62-57, where Bri Kulas led the Tigers with 27 points and five rebounds. Kulas is the Tigers’ leading scorer with 16.3 ppg and 4.0 rpg. Kayla McDowell (9.8 ppg, 5.5 rpg) and Morgan Stock (9.3 ppg, 4.3 rpg) also see consistent playing time for the Tigers.

This will mark the fourth meeting between the Skyhawks and Tigers and first ever trip to Martin, matching up for the second consecutive season. Missouri holds a 3-0 series lead, including an 82-71 victory last season.
