MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin tennis team wrapped up its fifth and final tournament of the fall, hosting Ohio Valley Conference rival Austin Peay in a tournament format. The Skyhawks won 10 singles matches to go along with four doubles victories in 18 total matches.
Senior Ivon Simic tallied two wins on the day (6-4, 6-2) and (6-4, 6-2) while freshman Burcu Tari also had a perfect afternoon in single play with wins of (6-2, 6-3) and (6-0, 6-0).
Senior Katie McCall won both of her singles matches (6-0, 6-1) and (6-0, 6-0). Sophomore Florence Nicole also wrapped up a perfect weekend with two wins (6-0, 6-1) and (6-0, 6-1).
Sarah Candeloro and Jessica Silva each earned singles wins on the weekend posting decisions of (6-0, 6-0) and (2-6, 6-0, 10-5), respectively.
Tari won both doubles matches, teaming up with Simic and Candeloro. Nicole also picked up two doubles victories on the day with teammates Silva and McCall while the rest of the Skyhawks each tallied one doubles victory on the day.
“We played extremely well this weekend but I would bet the girls felt that we could have won every match”, said UT Martin tennis coach Dennis Taylor. “I was happy to have Ivon Simic back in the lineup. I still don’t think she’s 100 percent but she still won both of her singles matches.”
The Skyhawks will be back in action on Jan. 24 when they travel to Lipscomb to open up their spring schedule.
