MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin football team travels to in-state Ohio Valley Conference foe Austin Peay this Saturday, Oct. 26 at 4 p.m.

This game serves as the third and final game for UT Martin in the seventh-annual Sgt. York Trophy series. The Sgt. York Trophy goes to the winner of the quadrangular season series between the four OVC football playing schools located in the state of Tennessee (Austin Peay, Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech and UT Martin). The award is only the second traveling trophy that involves more than two teams in college sports, as the other is the Commander in Chief's Trophy which has been contested between Air Force, Army and Navy annually since 1972. UT Martin has won the Sgt. York trophy twice (2010, 2012) and has a 12-8 all-time record in the series – the best mark of the four Tennessee OVC schools.

UT Martin leads the all-time series by a 34-25-2 margin, including a 19-13-1 record in games played in Clarksville. The Skyhawks have won five straight and nine of the last 10 contests against the Governors. UT Martin head coach Jason Simpson is 6-1 in his career against Austin Peay, as his teams have averaged 33.3 points per game in those seven games.

Under Simpson, the Skyhawks have traditionally bounced back well after a loss. Since 2006, UT Martin is 21-11 in the week following a loss, including a 12-3 mark since 2010. In OVC games immediately following an OVC loss, the Skyhawks are 13-5 under Simpson.

UT Martin (4-3, 2-2 OVC) fell to its first ranked opponent of the season last Saturday in a 29-15 loss to No. 22 Tennessee State. The Skyhawks outgained the Tigers by nearly 100 yards (327 yards of total offense to Tennessee State’s 229) and held Tennessee State to 2-of-13 on third down conversions but were hampered by 16 points scored by the Tennessee State defense in the second quarter. Skyhawk wide receiver Jeremy Butler hauled in game-highs of 10 catches for 129 yards and a touchdown, his 15th score in 17 career games at UT Martin.

Austin Peay (0-7, 0-3 OVC) is coming off a 31-3 loss at Murray State last Saturday. The Governors trailed 14-3 at the halftime break before the Racers closed out the game with 17 unanswered points. Austin Peay senior running back Tim Phillips enjoyed his best game of the season, tallying 151 of Austin Peay’s 196 yards of total offense - including a career-best 123 rushing yards on 26 carries. Defensively, Johnathan Shuler made a game-high 10 tackles and forced two fumbles for the Governors.
