CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin tennis team wrapped up their third fall tournament last weekend at Chattanooga in the Steve Baras Fall Classic.
UT Martin played 14 singles matches on the weekend, winning 10 head-to-head matchups. Freshman Burcu Tari has continued her dominance of the fall competition, remaining undefeated in singles through three tournaments. In singles competition, Tari won her flight with all three matches ending in straight sets.
Junior Jessica Silva used a first round bye along with two consecutive wins to earn a place in the championship match before falling in three sets.
The Skyhawks had two doubles teams compete in the classic, appearing in seven matches while notching five wins. After dropping the opening match, Sarah Candeloro and Katie McCall won the consolation bracket, earning three straight wins. The doubles duo of Tari and Silva earned a trip to the championship match before ultimately falling.
“Even without two of our top players, we did extremely well,” said UT Martin head tennis coach Dennis Taylor. “The Steve Baras Fall Classic is always one of the toughest tournaments and all of our players had some great wins in both singles and doubles.”
