Vote for Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year
MARTIN, Tenn. – Voting opens today to elect University of Tennessee at Martin head football coach Jason Simpson as the 2013 Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year.
The award, in its eighth season of existence, stands for Responsibility, Integrity, Sportsmanship and Excellence on and off the field. The winning coach receives $50,000 to donate to the charity of his choice plus $20,000 to donate to the alumni association.
Simpson has guided the Skyhawks to a 2-1 record in 2013, with both victories coming against ranked opponents. UT Martin is currently ranked No. 23 in the Sports Network poll after wins over No. 24 Chattanooga and No. 7 Central Arkansas.
Simpson is in his eighth season at the helm of the Skyhawk football program, posting a 47-35 record (.573 winning percentage). Against Ohio Valley Conference opponents, Simpson boasts a career .636 winning percentage (35-20 record).
Three of the program’s seven 8-win seasons have come under Simpson, including all three at the Football Championship Subdivision level. He was responsible for the program’s first-ever OVC championship team in 2006, as that team ended the season with a national No. 13 ranking after finishing 9-3 overall.
