FORT COLLINS, Colo. – The University of Tennessee at Martin women’s basketball team will have to wait no longer to find out their opponent in the 2013 Preseason Women’s National Invitational Tournament as the pairings were announced today.
UT Martin will play host to Georgia State in the first round of the Preseason WNIT on Nov. 8. Tip-off between the Skyhawks and Panthers is slated for 7 p.m. at the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center.
UT Martin was the only team in the nation (19-15) to boast two Top 10 scorers, and both of them are coming back for more in 2013. Two-time Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year Jasmine Newsome (22.6 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 5.5 apg) teams with three-time OVC first-teamer Heather Butler (22.4 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 4.0 apg) as the Skyhawks prepare to win their fourth straight OVC Tournament title and ensuing NCAA Tournament berth.
Ten of the 16 teams in the preseason WNIT are coming off of NCAA Tournament appearances. The field features Georgia State, Gonzaga, Idaho, IPFW, Louisville, Loyola Chicago, LSU, Mount St. Mary’s, North Carolina A&T, Oklahoma, Quinnipiac, Saint Joseph’s, Stephen F. Austin, Stetson, UT Martin and Wichita State.
The Preseason WNIT kicks off the women’s college basketball season and will be played Nov. 8-17 in a three-game guarantee championship format.

The Preseason WNIT features a three-game guarantee format. The event opens Nov. 8 with first-round games. Second-round games will be played Nov. 10 and 11 and sites will be announced following the first-round results; semifinals will be Nov. 14; and the championship is set for Sunday, Nov. 17. Teams that lose in the first two rounds will play consolation games on the second weekend, Nov. 15-16. All games are hosted by participating schools.
Regarding consolation games, the bracket will be re-drawn to form new matchups based on the geography of teams involved, who can/cannot host, recent history of teams, etc. The consolation bracket will be released Nov. 10 after all of the Round 1 games are complete.
The championship game will be nationally televised LIVE in HD on CBS Sports Network at 4 pm ET on Sunday, Nov. 17.
