MARTIN, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee at Martin baseball team rounds out the 2013 season when it pays a visit to Ohio Valley Conference rival Eastern Illinois at Coaches Stadium. The series will be played on Thursday (May 16), Friday (May 17) and Saturday (May 18). First pitch time is scheduled for 2 p.m. each day.

This series will be the third time in the last four years that the Skyhawks have played Eastern Illinois in Charleston. The series has been very competitive over the past four years, as UT Martin holds a narrow 6-5 advantage over the Panthers since 2009.

The Skyhawk offense features four regulars who hit above .280, led by Taylor Cox’s .318 batting average. Hagen Nelson (.305, seven-game hitting streak), Byron Johann (.285, team-high 13 doubles and three homers) and Grant Glasser (.283, team-best 28 runs scored) also pace the UT Martin lineup.

Against Eastern Illinois, the Skyhawks (10-38, 3-24 OVC) will throw senior right-hander Dan Tobik (1-7, 6.67 ERA) in Game 1, followed by sophomore lefties Taylor Cox (0-6, 6.22) and Dalton Potts (4-6, 6.07) in Games 2 and 3, respectively. Tobik ranks second in the OVC in strikeouts per nine innings (10.25) while Cox has allowed three earned runs or fewer in half of his team-high 12 starts. Potts leads the team in victories and boasts a 3.80 ERA in three OVC road starts.

The Panthers (20-26, 9-16 OVC) enter the series on a four-game winning streak, including a three-game sweep at Morehead State last weekend.

Caleb Howell leads Eastern Illinois in batting average (.348) and on-base percentage (.430), while Brant Valach hits .324 with a team-high 59 hits. Treysen Vavra is the only Panther to start in all 46 games and ranks in the top-10 in the OVC in doubles (18, second), slugging percentage (.549, sixth) and RBI’s (42, seventh).

Eastern Illinois has announced that Joe Greenfield (3-6, 3.86 ERA) will start Game 1, followed by Matt Borens (3-4, 4.78) in Game 2 and George Kalousek (1-1, 5.82) in Game 3. Garrison Stenger (3-1, two saves, 2.64 ERA) is the top option out of the bullpen for the Panthers.
