BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Delfincko Bogan, a junior combo guard on the University of Tennessee at Martin men’s basketball team, was crowned as adidas Ohio Valley Conference Co-Newcomer of the Week today.
Bogan, who shared today’s award with Tennessee State’s Kamar McKnight, becomes the fourth different Skyhawk to win an OVC weekly award this season. He joins Dominique Williams (Newcomer on Nov. 13), Fatodd Lewis (Player on Dec. 11) and Parrish Hewitt (Freshman on Dec. 11).
The 5-10, 190-pound transfer out of Moberly Area Community College enjoyed a big week for UT Martin. He averaged 15.5 points, 6.0 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals per contest while shooting an even 50 percent (12-of-24) from the floor in an OVC split against Eastern Kentucky and Southeast Missouri.
On Thursday at Eastern Kentucky, Bogan dialed up a team-high 19 points on 8-of-13 shooting. He also added three assists (including the pass to Matthew Butler on the game-winning shot with 1.4 seconds to go), two steals and a rebound while not committing a turnover in 30 minutes in the 70-69 victory.
Bogan followed that with 12 points, a career-best nine assists, five rebounds and three assists on Saturday against Southeast Missouri. He logged a career-best 41 minutes in the narrow overtime setback.
The Charleston, Mo. native leads the OVC in steals (1.9 per game) while also ranking ninth in three-point field goal percentage (.402). Bogan also ranks eighth in the league in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.8) and 10th in assists (3.6 per game) in OVC play.
Bogan and the Skyhawks return to action with their final two home games of the season this week. UT Martin hosts SIUE at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 15 before hosting Eastern Illinois at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 17.
