DICKSON, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin golf team is in prime position for its second straight tournament championship after a solid opening two rounds at the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate today in the 11-team field.

The Skyhawks rank in second place in the team standings after Day One, posting a score of 584 (+8). That score is just five strokes behind tournament leader Murray State.

UT Martin shot a 292 (+4) this morning before carding a 292 (+4) in the second round. As a team, the Skyhawks compiled one eagle, 16 birdies and 51 pars on the day.

“To be sitting in second place after the first day, I like where we are at,” said UT Martin golf coach Jerry Carpenter. “Several guys had nice afternoons despite difficult conditions with winds blowing anywhere from 15-20 mph. With that being said, I’m pretty proud of our guys. Everyone contributed on the afternoon and I think we will come out tomorrow, get a good amount of birdies and put ourselves in position to win a golf tournament.”

Hunter Richardson led UT Martin today, carding rounds of 73-71 to rank in a tie for fifth place out of 75 golfers in the field. His 144 (E) is only five strokes behind Auburn’s Ryan Knop for the individual championship. The Clarksville, Tenn. native led the Skyhawks with five birdies

Ross Redmont was five shots off the lead after accounting for one birdie and 14 pars in the first round. He finished with a 146 (+2) after shooting a 74 this morning and a 72 this afternoon, ranking tied for 11th in the individual standings.

Nick Wolf produced rounds of 74 and 73 today, carding a 147 (+3) aided by three birdies on the day to sit in 14th. Jack Story (71, 81) and Cameron Smith (77, 76) – notching the team’s lone eagle on the par-4 No. 4 hole in the second round - completed the team scoring with scores of 152 and 153, respectively.

Playing as an individual, Tate Chumley pieced together a solid 149 (+5) today – shooting a 73 in the opening round and a 76 in the second round. Ryan Davis (77, 73; 150) wasn’t too far behind to conclude the scoring for the UT Martin individuals.

The Skyhawks will tee off with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 17. The UT Martin team members are paired with Missouri State and Murray State while the Skyhawk individuals will play alongside fellow Ohio Valley Conference school Austin Peay and Mercer.
