UT MARTIN RODEO SQUADS NOTCH TOP-FOUR FINISHES AT MURRAY STATE

MURRAY, Ky. – The University of Tennessee at Martin rodeo teams produced several quality performances in this weekend’s rodeo, hosted by nearby Murray State University. The UT Martin men’s team garnered 368.3 points to place third while the women’s squad posted 260 points for a fourth-place finish.
Houston Herbert pieced together three high finishes in bareback riding, placing second in average (130), second in the opening round (72) and third in the short go (58). Jonny Walker was also responsible for a second-place showing in the short go with a total of 74 points.
Three UT Martin cowboys secured points in calf roping, led by Hunter Styles’ second-place finish in the short go (13.5) and fourth-place effort in average (25.3). Robbie Van Holten finished fifth in both average (26.4) and in the second round (14.9) while Chase Thrasher’s time of 11.1 seconds split sixth in the opening round.
In breakaway roping, Kayla Lombardo accumulated points on the women’s side with a 2.8-second effort in the first round – which was good enough for sixth place.
A total of four cowboys dialed up points for UT Martin in steer wrestling. Van Holten accumulated points in all three phases, splitting first in the opening round (4.9) before splitting third with a 5.5 in the short go. His 10.4 average was the second-best time in the field. Styles also produced points in all three sections, splitting sixth in the first round (5.5) before splitting third in the short go (5.5) to place fourth in average (11.0). Additionally, UT Martin had two cowboys earn points in the first round as Thrasher split third (5.4) and Craig Parks split sixth (5.5).
Ross Mitchell performed well in team roping alongside Ethan Wheeler from East Mississippi Community College. The duo finished second with a 13.7 average after placing third in both the first and second rounds with times of 6.6 and 7.1, respectively.
The UT Martin women’s team displayed three scorers in barrel racing, paced by Ashley Brooks. The senior from South Fulton, Tenn. earned second-place finishes in average (28.11) and in the short round (13.9) after finishing third in the opening round with a time of 14.21 seconds. Casey Allen also tallied high finishes in all three phases of the event, coming in third in average (28.17), third in the short go (13.91) and fourth in the initial round (14.26). Raegan Taylor also compiled points with times of 14.16 seconds in the short go (fifth) and 28.53 in average (sixth).
UT Martin wraps up its fall slate on Nov. 2-4 when it travels to a rodeo hosted by Southern Arkansas University.
