MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin soccer squad is set for its final homestand of the season as it hosts SIUE on Friday, Oct. 13 and Eastern Illinois on Sunday, Oct. 15. Friday’s match is set to begin at 6 p.m. and Sunday’s match will begin at 1 p.m.
UT Martin hold the all-time series lead over SIUE (6-4), splitting the last four matches with each team winning twice at its respective home field. The Skyhawks look to keep up the recent success against Eastern Illinois as they have beaten the Panthers eight of the last 11 times.
UT Martin (4-9-3, 2-4-1 Ohio Valley Conference) is coming off a weekend in which it dropped a heartbreaker to Belmont (3-2) and forced a draw at Austin Peay (2-2). With a pair of victories this weekend, the Skyhawks could move as high as fourth in the OVC standings.
Both Kaci Mitchell and Danae Kaldaridou netted a goal in each contest while Katelyn Colvin tallied three assists between the two matches last week. Colvin’s eight assists rank fifth nationally and lead the OVC while she currently sits tied for second in the UT Martin record book for the season record. Hannah McGowen ranks first all-time with 10 set in 2011 and Ashlie Watson compiled eight in 2014.
The UT Martin offense is led by Kaldaridou (six goals, four assists) and Colvin (three goals, eight assists). Amy McGivern and Mitchell have tallied three goals each on the season while Alice Adams, Ashley Levingston and Nicole Collins have accounted for two goals apiece. Vanessa Dwumfour-Poku has picked up one goal as well while Bella Roberts, Sara Ketis, Blare Gerido and Alexius Thomas have all racked up assists on the campaign. Erica Myers has tallied a total of 69 saves on the year while playing in over 1,371 minutes for the Skyhawks, who rank first in the OVC in assists (21) and saves (79).
SIUE (6-6-2, 4-2-1 OVC) is led by MacKenzie Litzsinger’s four goals and one assist. The Cougars sport a total of 12 different scorers on the team, including the potent scoring duo of Caroline Hoefert (three goals, one assist) and Emily Grahl (one goal, five assists). Goalkeeper Juli Rossi (55 saves, 1.40 GAA) has received the bulk of playing time between the posts for 10th year head coach Derek Burton.
Eastern Illinois (5-9-2, 0-6-1 OVC) is led by Kate Olson’s three goals and two assists while Hannah Heinz (three goals, two assists), Henar Urteaga (three goals) and Sarah DeWolf (three goals) also provide a scoring punch. Pilar Barrio (two goals, one assist), Kayla Stolfa (five assists), Emma Scaro (one goal), Niondina Nystrom (one goal) and Carrie Caplin (one goal) have also provided flexibility for the Panthers. Sara Teteak (50 saves, 1.37 GAA) has split time with Maddie Lyon (23 saves, 1.59 GAA) between the goal posts for third-year head coach Kiki Lara.
