CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin soccer squad found itself in a back-and-forth battle against Austin Peay this afternoon, tying the Governors 2-2.

UT Martin (4-9-3, 2-4-1 OVC) outshot Austin Peay 16-7 and held the Governors to zero shots in both overtime periods.

The Skyhawks were led by Kaci Mitchell and Danae Kaldaridou as both juniors connected for a goal each while Katelyn Colvin racked up another assist in the outing. Amy McGivern swung freely as the Ballynahinch, Northern Ireland native tallied five shots to pace UT Martin in the shots column. Nicole Collins, Kamryn Chappell and Alice Adams provided two shots apiece while Colvin, Sara Ketis and Vanessa Dwumfour-Poku each chipped in a shot.

The Skyhawk back line provided a solid effort as they allowed only two shots on goal during the entire match. Six UT Martin players clocked the complete 110 minutes of action. The defensive battle resulted in five total yellow cards between the two factions.

Goalkeeper Erica Myers played the full match between the posts but tallied no saves in the rainy affair. One missed opportunity faced by Myers was on a free kick from the Governors.

The Skyhawks got on the board first as Mitchell scooted a ball that went past the hands of the Austin Peay goalkeeper before finding the back of the net. Mitchell’s third goal of the season gave UT Martin the 1-0 edge at the 32:42 mark.

The Governors answered with a goal in the 56th minute when McKenzie Dixon tied things up at 1-1.

UT Martin regained the lead a little over five minutes later as Kaldaridou received a cross from Colvin to pound in the header, giving the Skyhawks a 2-1 advantage in the 62nd minute.

Austin Peay netted the equalizing goal as Gybson Roth took a flicked pass on a free kick to knot the score at 2-2 at the 73:11 mark.

UT Martin was able to muster a total of six shots in both overtimes but none resulted in a game-winner.

UT Martin returns to Skyhawk Field on Friday, Oct. to host SIUE. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
