BUCHANAN, Tenn. – For the second straight year, the University of Tennessee at Martin golf team won its host tournament at Paris Landing State Park as it soared to a 15-shot victory after today’s third and final round of the Skyhawk Fall Classic.

For the third time in as many rounds, UT Martin boasted the best team score in the field with a 283 (-5) this morning. Overall, the Skyhawks pieced together an 860 (-4) to top second-place Murray State (875, +11).

UT Martin also produced three players on the five-man all-tournament team. Hunter Richardson (211, -5) was one shot off the individual lead while placing second in the field of 76 golfers to bring home his 18th career top-5 finish. Competing as an individual, Cameron Smith came away with the best finish of his career, placing third with a 213 (-3). Ross Redmont also generated his best collegiate finish for the second consecutive week, placing fifth with a 214 (-2).

“Today was a good day for the UT Martin Skyhawk golf team,” UT Martin head coach Jerry Carpenter said. “We played a very consistent game today. We corrected some mistakes today that we made yesterday, especially playing Holes No. 1 and No. 10 better. We also putted better today and that was a key factor to today’s win over a lot of good competition.”

Jack Story and Nick Wolf each carded identical scores of 218 (+2) to tie for ninth place. That marked the second straight top-10 finish for Story and the highest finish in Wolf’s young career. Ryan Davis (222, +6) also garnered the best finish of his freshman season with a 17th-place effort to round out the UT Martin scoring lineup.

Tate Chumley (223, +7) posted the best finish of his Skyhawk career while Zach Haynes (225, +9) placed third out of the field of individuals. Mason Chandler (238, +22) and Peyton Dix (241, +25) also competed as individuals for UT Martin.

The Skyhawks were paced by Richardson’s 67 today as the senior from Clarksville, Tenn. made a serious run at his 11th career victory. He accounted for eight birdies this morning – including seven in his first 10 holes as he tallied the lowest round in the tournament.

Redmont, Story and Wolf each produced even-par 72 performances today to help ignite a strong finish for UT Martin. Wolf’s third round included an eagle on the par-5, 495-yard Hole No. 16. Davis also chipped in with a 74 for the third straight round for the Skyhawks.

Smith led the UT Martin individuals with a 72 this morning, followed by Chumley (74), Haynes (75), Chandler (77) and Dix (78).

For the tournament, Wolf led the field in par-5 scoring (4.42, -7) while Redmont completed a tournament-high 38 pars. Richardson’s 15 birdies ranked second in the field.

All in all, Carpenter hailed the 11th annual Skyhawk Fall Classic as one of the best in the event’s history.

“The golf course was in great condition,” Carpenter said. “I’d like to personally thank all of the staff at Paris Landing, including head golf professional Keith Hickman. We are so gracious for all of their hard work to make this tournament a success every fall.”

The Skyhawks take next week off from official competition before returning to play at the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate, held at Greystone Country Club in Dickson, Tenn. on Oct. 16-17.
