The Skyhawks enter the season finale with a 35-15 overall record while sitting 12-4 in OVC play. With a pair of victories, the Skyhawks will clinch the No. 2 seed in the OVC Softball Championship and the fifth most wins in school history. UT Martin currently ranks first in the OVC in runs scored (289), on base percentage (.386) and RBIs (243) while setting a new OVC record with 140 stolen bases - which ranks third nationally.
Prior to the doubleheader, UT Martin will honor the team's three seniors Carly Gonzales, Brooke Kennedy and Renate Meckl along with manager Courtney Anders. The 2017 senior class has earned berths in three OVC Softball Championships while tallying 116 career victories. Together, the trio has combined for 340 hits, 28 home runs, 155 RBIs, 112 stolen bases and 226 runs scored offensively while tossing 10 shutouts and 388 strikeouts over their four-year Skyhawk careers.
Gonzales is just the fourth player in program history to eclipse 200 career base hits while swiping 86 stolen bases. As a whole, she ranks in the top-10 in 10 different program statistics including batting average, at bats, runs scored, hits, singles, doubles, total bases, walks, extra base hits and stolen bases. Meanwhile Meckl returns to action for the Skyhawks with 154 career starts along with 18 home runs and 65 RBIs throughout her decorated career.
In the pitching circle, Kennedy has left her mark throughout the record books. Kennedy ranks third in program history with 47 career victories while tallying 10 shutouts. She also ranks second in saves, fourth in strikeouts with 388, fifth in appearances, sixth in complete games, seventh in starts and seventh innings pitched. She has also posted a single-season high with 19 victories on the season while posting a 2.91 ERA in 146.2 innings of work.
Southeast Missouri (22-16, 7-13 OVC) enters the weekend looking for some help to earn a berth into the OVC Softball Championship. With two games left, the Redhawks can get to eighth with a sweep of UT Martin and a Tennessee State sweep of Belmont. The Redhawks have been hot as of late, winning three of their last four games - all of which on the road.
Freshman Rachel Anderson leads the way for the Redhawks, pacing the team in all three Triple Crown categories with a .401 batting average, 25 extra base hits, seven home runs and 33 RBIs. In the pitching circle, Madeline Krumrey leads the staff with a 13-8 record and 2.51 ERA.
