MARTIN, Tenn. – Looking for a similar result as its 12-4 victory on March 21, the University of Tennessee at Martin will host Evansville and Christian Brothers in a pair of mid-week matchups this week at Skyhawk Field. The Skyhawks will battle it out with the Purple Aces on Tuesday, April 18, while they welcome the Memphis-native Buccaneers on Wednesday, April 19.

UT Martin (12-20, 4-11 OVC) is coming off their conference bye week in which the Skyhawks took a four-game road trip north to take on Kentucky and Wright State. It was a tough week for UT Martin, coming out on the losing end in all four contests. The Skyhawks are hoping to bounce back and continue some recent successes in their series with Evansville and Christian Brothers.

Seniors Dan Kerwin and Tanner Wessling were bright spots over the past week for UT Martin. Kerwin is currently in the midst of the longest hitting streak by any Skyhawk player this season (12), while Wessling is quietly putting together a solid April in his final campaign in the orange and blue. Wessling is hitting a team-high .316 this month including banging out a pair of doubles and two triples.

The Purple Aces have gotten the best of UT Martin in the series total, winning 16 of their 20 meetings. However, it is the Skyhawks who picked up the victory in the latest contest. Coach Rick Robinson’s squad handed Evansville the 12-4 loss back in March. Wessling and freshman Anthony Adduci each posted four RBI’s in the victory. UT Martin is 8-1 all-time against Christian Brothers including winning the last six matchups with the Division-II regional rival.

Evansville (13-22, 4-5 Missouri Valley) is coming off one of its most successful stretches of 2017 with a three-game sweep of Illinois State. Andrew Tanous continues to pound the ball, batting .303 and driving in 22 runs on the season. Austin Allinger has been of the Missouri Valley’s top relievers for the Purple Aces compiling a 3-1 record and striking out 27 hitters along the way.

Christian Brothers (13-29, 7-20 GSC) dropped two-of-three over the weekend to Gulf South Conference rival Lee. Casey Goodwin has appeared in 39 games for the Buccaneers and is batting .313, with five homers and 24 RBI’s. The Christian Brothers pitching staff has struggled this season, posting a team earned run average of 6.65 allowing 261 earned runs on the season thus far.

The Evansville contest will be streamed live on the OVC Digital Network and can be found by following the link above.

Both contests are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m,
