MARTIN, Tenn. – Three University of Tennessee at Martin student-athletes were recognized today by the National Collegiate Equestrian Association for their success both in the arena and in the classroom during the 2016-17 academic year.

Brittany Woodard, a senior from Galloway, Ohio, earned American Quarter Horse Association NCEA Academic second team honors. That award is given to riders who must have competed in a minimum of 60 percent of the school’s meets, not including demo or exhibition rides. The recipient must have also earned a cumulative 3.25 Grade Point Average while maintaining full-time enrollment in the previous spring and full-time semesters, respectively.

Woodard competed in eight of UT Martin’s nine competitions in horsemanship, posting a combined 3.41 GPA in the spring 2016 and fall 2017 semesters. She compiled three team points and also won an MOP against Minnesota-Crookston on March 3. She also earned a team point in reining in the home victory over Minnesota-Crookston.

Joining Woodard on the American Paint Horse Association NCEA Academic Honor Roll list was sophomores Sammi Felts and Sydney Lintner. In order to qualify for that award, riders must have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.25 while maintaining full-time enrollment in the previous spring and fall semesters, respectively.

A Chesterfield, Va. native, Felts earned a 3.60 GPA over the past calendar year, tallying a pair of team points in reining. Lintner, who hails from Wildwood, Mo., compiled a 3.43 GPA in that same span while posting one team point in equitation on the flat.
