SKYHAWKS SOAR FOR 11TH CONSECUTIVE VICTORY WITH 6-1 TRIUMPH AGAINST JSU

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin tennis team continued its blazing stretch with a 6-1 Ohio Valley Conference victory over Jacksonville State at Skyhawk Varsity Courts this afternoon.

Today’s result was the 11th straight notch in the win column for the Skyhawks, who are now 11-3 overall with a 7-0 mark against OVC foes.

UT Martin won No. 3 doubles by default before the No. 1 squad of Sarah Candeloro and Jemima Potter came away with a 6-2 victory to earn the doubles point.

In singles action, Andrea Plantada Cortes struck first with a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 4. Candeloro followed with a comeback win at No. 1, pushing through for a 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 (2) victory. Burcu Tari posted a 7-5, 6-0 win at No. 3 while Elina Geut (No. 5) and Potter (No. 6) each were awarded victories by default.

The Skyhawks round out the 2017 regular season next weekend when they host SIUE on Friday, April 14 and Eastern Illinois on Saturday, April 15. Both matches are set to begin at 2 p.m. at Skyhawk Varsity Courts.
