UT MARTIN MEN'S RODEO TALLIES FIRST WIN OF SEASON AT ARKANSAS-MONTICELLO

MONTICELLO, Ark. – The University of Tennessee at Martin men’s rodeo team earned its first victory of the season, tying Southern Arkansas for first-place accolades this weekend at the rodeo hosted by Arkansas-Monticello.
The UT Martin men’s team accrued 535 points while the women’s squad compiled 80 points to finish in fifth place.
Houston Herbert swept all three phases of bareback riding, finishing with the best total in average (146), first round (68) and short go (78).
In calf roping, Robbie Van Holten placed fifth in both average (26.7) and in the second round (16.5).
On the women’s side, Alexandra Lyle split fourth with a time of 2.4 seconds in the opening round of breakaway roping. She also tallied points by splitting sixth in average (2.4).
Hunter Styles tallied points in the first round (30, second) and in average (30, second) of saddle bronc riding for UT Martin.
A trio of UT Martin cowboys piled up points in steer wrestling. Ethan Foster led the charge after securing second-place finishes in average (11.6 seconds) and in the short go (5.9). Colt Matthews split first in the opening round with a time of 4.1 seconds before placing fifth in average (4.1). Tucker Kail also earned points with a time of 5.0 seconds (fifth) in the opening round.
In team roping, Kail and Matthews joined forces to claim top honors with a time of 4.8 seconds in the first round. The duo also finished fifth in average at 4.8 seconds.
Five different UT Martin cowgirls registered points in barrel racing, led by Summer Conley’s 15.56 seconds in the short go (first) and 31.46 average (split second). Nealey Dalton earned points in average (31.54, fourth), the opening round (15.77, fourth) and in the second round (15.77, fifth). Kylie Brueggeman had the best time in the field in the opening round (15.62) while Brandi Pittman accounted for top-five performances in the short round (15.76, fourth) and in average (31.71, fifth). In addition, Madison Crow was able to record points in the opening round (15.93, fifth), the short go (15.93, sixth) and average (31.75, sixth).
Ryan McDaniel was one of just two cowboys in the entire rodeo to register points in bull riding. The UT Martin representative had the best score (82) in the opening round and finished second with an 82 average.
UT Martin returns to action on April 6-8 when it hosts the 49th annual Spring College Rodeo. Each night’s events will start at 7:30 p.m. at the Ned McWherter Agricultural Complex and NW (Doc) Robinson Arena.
