SKYHAWK TENNIS POWERS PAST IN-STATE OVC RIVAL AUSTIN PEAY, 5-2

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin tennis team racked up its eighth straight win this afternoon, turning away Ohio Valley Conference foe Austin Peay by a 5-2 margin.
The win was the eighth in a row for the Skyhawks, who improve to 8-3 overall with an unblemished 4-0 OVC record.
For the eighth straight match, UT Martin claimed the doubles point. Hitomi Naito and Asel Jumamukhambetova earned a 6-0 victory at No. 2 while Burcu Tari and Andrea Plantada Cortes picked up a 6-2 win at No. 3. Sarah Candeloro and Jemima Potter also led by a 5-2 margin at No. 1 before the Skyhawks claimed the pivotal doubles point.
Jumamukhambetova breezed through a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles while Plantada Cortes dialed up a 6-0, 6-4 victory at No. 5. After Austin Peay won the matchups at No. 2 and No. 1, Tari came through with a 6-3, 6-3 clinching win at No. 3. Elina Geut polished off the victory with a thrilling 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (6) triumph at No. 6.
UT Martin returns to action on Sunday, April 2 when it travels to Murray State. The march is set to begin at 2 p.m.
