MOBLEY COMPILES NABC ALL-DISTRICT 19 FIRST TEAM ACCOLADES
March 22, 2017
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Following one of the best individual seasons in University of Tennessee at Martin men’s basketball history, senior guard Jacolby Mobley earned All-District 19 first team honors by the National Association of Basketball Coaches today.
A native of Starkville, Miss., Mobley is the fifth Skyhawk to tally NABC all-district accolades since 2008, joining Twymond Howard (2015-16), Deville Smith (2014-15), Marshun Newell (2014-15) and Lester Hudson (2008-09, 2007-08).
Mobley was amongst the NABC’s annual listing of the top 250 players in Division-I basketball, as 10 players from 25 different districts were spotlighted. He was selected to the all-district team by members of the NABC and is now eligible for the All-American squad, which will be announced as part of the Final Four festivities in Phoenix, Ariz. on April 1-3.
Despite missing six games in December because of injuries, Mobley emerged as one of the most dynamic players in the Ohio Valley Conference in 2016-17. He led the league in three-point field goals made (3.3 per game) while ranking fourth in both scoring (19.5 points per game) and minutes played (35.3 per game). He finished only three points shy of the league’s scoring title in OVC play, upping his average to 21.4 points per outing against league foes.
Mobley went off for 14 games of at least 20 points, including a career-best 36 points at Austin Peay on Jan. 26. He averaged 28.0 points per game in UT Martin’s two postseason contests, tossing in 29 points against UNC Asheville (March 16) and 27 points at Campbell (March 20) in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament. He also provided one of the most memorable moments of the season, swishing a game-winning buzzer-beating three-pointer in a big road win at Atlantic 10 member Duquesne on Nov. 23.
Mobley’s 95 three-pointers ranked fifth in UT Martin single-season history, while his 566 points were the seventh-highest single-season total in program history. He canned 160 trifectas in his two-year career, which is good enough for sixth all-time in school history. He became just the sixth different Skyhawk to accumulate All-OVC first team honors in 2016-17.
With Mobley helping lead the way, UT Martin won its first-ever outright OVC West division championship and tied a school record with 22 victories in 2016-17. The Skyhawks also made it to the OVC Tournament championship game for the second consecutive season while notching yet another postseason victory in the 2017 CIT.
