UT MARTIN TENNIS KEEPS ROLLING WITH 5-2 ROAD TRIUMPH AT SAMFORD

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – For the second day in a row, the University of Tennessee at Martin tennis team seized the doubles point and didn’t look back, as the Skyhawks came away with a 5-2 victory against the Samford Bulldogs today.

Not only did UT Martin (2-3) claim the doubles point but the Skyhawks accounted for a clean sweep on their way to an impressive win over a Samford team that entered the match with a 7-3 record. Sarah Candeloro and Jemima Potter earned a 6-1 victory at No. 1 while the teams of Hitomi Naito/Asel Jumamukhambetova (No. 2) and Burcu Tari/Andrea Plantada Cortes (No. 3) each compiled 6-4 wins.

In singles, Plantada Cortes was responsible for a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 5. Tari improved to 3-1 on the season after a 6-2, 6-3 victory at No. 3. Naito (6-4, 6-2) and Jumamukhambetova (6-4, 0-6, 10-8) provided wins at No. 2 and No. 4, respectively.

The Skyhawks will go for their third straight win on Monday, March 6 when they travel to Livingston, Ala. for a matchup against West Alabama. First serve is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
