UTM Rifle Open Results
MARTIN, Tenn. – The No. 19 nationally ranked University of Tennessee at Martin rifle squad competed in two competitions this past week including its annual UTM Rifle Open. The Skyhawks also traveled to Murray State to take part in the Withrow Open.
Kaitlin Korinek was the standout performer at the UTM Rifle Open shooting the program’s best air rifle score (594) since 2015 to lead the mixed team (2308). Her performance paced the squad in the discipline while Alex Tamboli also set a career best (572) to help lead the Skyhawks. Joe Martin (579) and Alex Bapties (563) rounded out the air rifle scoring. UT Martin used scores of Martin (575), Korinek (570), Tamboli (567) and Logan Hunt (547) in the smallbore. The mixed squad finished with a 4567 aggregate total.
The women’s squad (2299) also saw two shooters notch career marks in the air rifle as Jennifer Plocinik (584) and Alyson Sylvester (575) each surpassed their previous bests. Brianna Sawyers (574) and Ashley Coots (566) also helped lead the team in the discipline. Sylvester continued her solid performance by setting a new career high in smallbore (569) while the women’s team (2243) used scores by Plocinik (561), Sawyers (560) and Linsey Flint (553) to make up the scoring. The women’s squad finished with a 4542 aggregate total.
Individuals Brigitte Curcio (578 air file, 560 smallbore) and Andre Delcazo (560 smallbore) also had strong finishes for the Skyhawks.
Also during the week, both UT Martin teams traveled to Murray, Ky. to compete with Murray State, Kentucky, North Carolina State, Ole Miss, Jacksonville State, Memphis, North Georgia and UAB in the Withrow Open hosted by the third ranked Racers.
Two Skyhawks notched career bests in the smallbore as Martin (584) and Korinek (579) bested their previous scores during the competition. Tamboli (567) and Curcio (556) rounded out the scoring in the discipline for the mixed team (2286). Martin (582), Korinek (581), Curcio (572) and Hunt (571) made up the 2306 total for the UT Martin mixed team in the air rifle to give the squad an aggregate total of 4592.
The women’s team also saw two shooters notch career highs in the small bore as Plocinik (577) and Sylvester (570) set new high scores. Sawyers (564) and Ashley Coots (562) rounded out the scoring for the women’s team. Sawyers (577), Sylvester (574), Plocinik (572) and Coots (566) also made up the scoring in the air rifle to give the women’s team an aggregate total of 4562 in the competition.
“I was really pleased with how the weekend went considering the traveling circumstances,” head coach Bob Beard said. “I was extremely happy with Alyson and Kaitlin’s performance. Hopefully we can build on these scores and have a strong showing at the OVC Championships.”
The Skyhawks return to action Feb. 4-5 as the travel to Morehead State to compete in the OVC Championships.
