HERO Sports FCS Sophomore All-American Team
MARTIN, Tenn. – Rising University of Tennessee at Martin linebacker Kevin Prather, Jr. has been named to the inaugural HERO Sports FCS Sophomore All-American Team after a standout campaign. Prather is one of just four players in the Ohio Valley Conference to receive the postseason honor.
A 6-0, 230-pound linebacker, Prather played and started in all 12 games for the Skyhawks which ranked as one of the best defenses not only in the conference but the country. Prather helped a defense which ranked second in the OVC in scoring defense (24.0 ppg), total defense (322.4 ypg), rushing defense (128.3 ypg) and pass defense (194.1 ypg) trailing only behind nationally ranked Jacksonville State. The Skyhawks also ranked second in the league with 17 interceptions and 27 sacks.
A native of Murfreesboro, Tenn., Prather has started in every game of his young Skyhawk career while ranking second on the team in 2016 with 71 total tackles – including 27 unassisted. He also tallied 7.5 tackles for loss to total 34 yards while notching 2.5 sacks on the year. He ranked first in the OVC and fourth nationally with five forced fumbles while ranking 24th nationally with a pair of recoveries along with one interception. He also made his presence known with four pass breakups and three quarterback hurries.
Prather’s best game of the season came against Eastern Illinois on Nov. 5 where he tallied a season-high nine tackles along with 1.5 tackles for loss, 0.5 sack, two forced fumbles and a recovery.
