MARTIN, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee at Martin men’s basketball squad takes on the UMKC Kangaroos for the third time in the last four years when the teams meet for a Tuesday, Dec. 20 tilt. Tipoff from Municipal Auditorium is scheduled for 7:35 p.m.
The Skyhawks (9-4) are coming off one of their best offensive outputs of the season in a 97-72 home win over Bethune-Cookman on Saturday. In that game, Kedar Edwards became only the third UT Martin player to ever accumulate a triple-double (15 points, 11 assists, 10 rebounds) while Javier Martinez poured in a career-high 27 points in only 26 minutes of play. The Skyhawks handed out 27 assists in the game while connecting on 77.8 percent (21-for-27) of their field goal attempts in the final 20 minutes, setting a new school record for highest shooting percentage in a single half.
UT Martin entered this week ranking fourth nationally in assists (230) and ninth nationally in rebounding (503). Additionally, the Skyhawks lead the Ohio Valley Conference in scoring offense (80.8 points per game), field goal percentage (.484) and assists per game (17.7).
Since the start of the 2014-15 season, UT Martin ranks third in the country with 23 road victories - trailing only Monmouth (27) and Albany (24). The Skyhawks’ nine nonconference victories are the most for the program in its Division-I era (since 1992) and are the most to start off a season since 1986-87.
