TULSA, Okla. –
The University of Tennessee at Martin women’s basketball would fall behind early and never recover, ultimately falling to Summit League foe Oral Roberts 82-53 on Saturday afternoon.

The Skyhawks (2-7) struggled from the field, shooting just 36.5 percent from the field while placing just one player in double figures. Junior forward Janekia Mason posted a new career-high with 11 points in just 16 minutes of play.

Oral Roberts (6-4) boasted a balanced scoring attack, placing five different players in double figures led by the play of Lakota Beatty who tallied a team-high 18 points off the bench. Beatty was joined in double figures by Maria Martianez with 16 points and nine rebounds while Kaylan Mayberry (12 points), Faith Ihim (12 points) and Ashley Beatty (11 points) rounded out the Golden Eagles in double figures.

The first quarter would be a tail of two runs. Oral Roberts would come out of the gates on fire, scoring the game’s first eight points of the contest but the Skyhawks finally got on the board around the six-minute mark. After reaching the scoring column, the Skyhawks would string together a 6-0 run of their own to cut into the deficit. With the margin trimmed to four, Oral Roberts would outscore UT Martin down the stretch to hold a 19-11 advantage heading into the second quarter.

Oral Roberts would nearly double its lead heading into halftime after outscoring UT Martin 19-12 in the second quarter. The Golden Eagles would put both Ihim and Martianez in double figures during the quarter while holding the Skyhawks scoreless for the final 4:23 of the period. With the deficit, UT Martin would head into halftime trailing 38-23.

The Golden Eagles would put the game away in the early minutes of the third quarter. After holding a 15-point halftime advantage, Oral Roberts would extend its lead out to 30 after outscoring the Skyhawks by 15 in the opening six minutes of the period.

UT Martin would trim the margin to as close as 24 points down the stretch in the fourth quarter, but it wouldn’t be enough as the squad dropped its third consecutive road contest 82-53.

The Skyhawks will return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 14 when the squad plays host to regional rival Arkansas State. Tipoff from the Elam Center is scheduled for 11 a.m. as the team’s annual Kid Game for local youth.
