SKYHAWK MEN'S HOOPS LOOKS TO EXTEND HOME WINNING STREAK AGAINST FLORIDA ATLANTIC
November 28, 2016
MARTIN, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee at Martin men’s basketball team looks to extend its home magic when it hosts the Florida Atlantic Owls out of Conference USA on Tuesday, Nov. 29. The game, which serves as the backend of a doubleheader with the women’s basketball team, will tip off at approximately 7:30 p.m.
The Skyhawks (5-2) have reeled off nine consecutive home victories, which is the longest in the school’s Division-I era (since 1992). The current unbeaten home streak is the longest since UT Martin won 12 straight home games during the 1984-85 and 1985-86 seasons.
UT Martin comes into the contest with the best overall record in the Ohio Valley Conference’s West division. The Skyhawks lead the OVC in three-point field goal percentage defense (.297) and assists per game (19.0) while also ranking fourth nationally in total assists (133).
This will be the second straight year that the Skyhawks have battled Florida Atlantic on the hardwood. Last season in Boca Raton, UT Martin turned up the heat defensively on its way to an impressive 56-49 victory. The Skyhawks limited the Owls to 32.1 percent shooting for the contest, including a 19 percent (4-of-21) effort from three-point range. Kedar Edwards hauled in 10 rebounds and added three steals for UT Martin, who led for 38:35 of clock time.
The Skyhawks saw their five-game winning streak come to an end last Friday, falling 111-76 at No. 1 Kentucky. UT Martin saw 10 different players score in the game and put up the most points of any opponent the Wildcats have faced this season.
Florida Atlantic (2-3) enters the game with back-to-back wins under its belt, including a 78-62 drubbing of South Florida in its last game. The Owls connected on 63.2 percent (12-for-19) of their field goal attempts in the second half and made 11 of their 21 shots from three-point land on their way to the victory over the American Athletic Conference squad.
