MARTIN, Tenn. – The 2016-17 University of Tennessee at Martin basketball season starts on Monday, Nov. 7 when both Skyhawk teams are in action in an exhibition doubleheader at the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center. The UT Martin women’s team hosts Christian Brothers University at 5:30 p.m., followed by the Skyhawk men’s team taking on Transylvania University at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free for both contests.

Monday’s exhibition games will serve as the only tune-ups for both UT Martin teams before they officially open the 2016-17 campaign later in the week. The Skyhawk women’s team was picked to finish second overall while the UT Martin men were selected to finish fourth in the West division in the official Ohio Valley Conference preseason polls that were released on Oct. 26.

Head coach Kevin McMillan is in his eighth season at the helm of the Skyhawk women’s basketball program. He returns six players and two starters from last year’s team who won its third consecutive OVC regular season championship and notched its first postseason win since 1999. The UT Martin women begin its season on Friday, Nov. 11 when it hosts No. 5 Louisville at the Elam Center.

The Lady Bucs are coming off an 11-16 record in 2015-16. Sarah Condra enters her seventh season as head coach of Christian Brothers, a Division-II school located in Memphis.

Anthony Stewart takes over the reins of the Skyhawk men’s basketball program in 2016-17 after spending two seasons as UT Martin’s associate head coach. The Skyhawk men’s squad brings back seven players and one starter from the 2016 OVC West division championship team who racked up its second straight 20-win campaign. The season opener for the UT Martin men is also next Friday, Nov. 11 when the Skyhawks travel to Ole Miss.

Transylvania, a Division-III school based out of Lexington, Ky., compiled an 11-16 mark last season. Head coach Brian Lane is in his 16th season overseeing the Pioneer program.

Both of Monday’s exhibition games will be streamed live, free of charge, on the OVC Digital Network. Those links - as well as links for radio coverage and live stats - can be found at the top of the webpage.
