BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – For the sixth time in his illustrious career, University of Tennessee at Martin junior Hunter Richardson has been named adidas Ohio Valley Conference Golfer of the Week, the league announced this morning.
With today’s award, Richardson establishes a new program record for most career OVC weekly mentions. Richardson, who was also named OVC Golfer of the Week on Oct. 5 of this season, passed 2015 OVC medalist Brendon Caballero for the top spot.
Richardson chalked up his fifth career win – all of which have occurred in the last calendar year – yesterday at the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate, held at Greystone Golf Course in Dickson, Tenn. He was the only golfer in the 60-participant field to card an under-par score, as he pieced together rounds of 72-70-71 for a final tally of 213 (-3).
Richardson’s 71 during Tuesday’s final round was the best score in the field, as he piled up 12 birdies (second-most in the event) and an eagle on his way to medalist honors. The Clarksville, Tenn. native helped UT Martin to a third-place overall finish but the Skyhawks ranked first out of seven participating OVC teams in the field.
One year after capturing OVC medalist honors and helping UT Martin win its first-ever OVC championship, Richardson currently ranks fourth in the league in scoring average (70.9).
Richardson will go for his third consecutive win of the 2016-17 season when the Skyhawks travel to the Samford Intercollegiate on Oct. 31-Nov. 1.
