BRENTWOOD, Tenn. –
For the first time this season, University of Tennessee at Martin athlete Ann Asipan garnered earned adidas Ohio Valley Conference Co-Female Runner of the Week honors after a strong performance at the Alabama Crimson Classic.

A native of Iten, Kenya, Asipan used the Crimson Classic as her final primer prior to the OVC Championship where she was named Athlete of the Championship a year ago. Asipan has paced the South Region’s No. 13 ranked program in each race of her two-year career, setting program records at varying distances.

Asipan once again paced the Skyhawks with a fourth place finish in the Crimson Classic in a loaded field which included 251 participants from multiple regionally-ranked teams. Her time of 20:47.2 in the women’s 6k ranks as the second-fasted 6k time of the season in the OVC. Her performance marked the sixth OVC Female Runner of the Week honor in school history.

Asipan and the Skyhawks will look to build upon the team’s No. 13 regional ranking at the OVC Championships on Saturday, Oct. 29. The championship will be held at Vaughn’s Creek Cross Country Course at Percy Warner Park in Nashville, Tenn. Asipan won the OVC Championship last year after shattering the program’s 5k record by over 41 seconds with a time of 17:03.8.
