UTM TENNIS CONTINUES SUCCESSFUL FALL CAMPAIGN AT REDHAWK INVITATIONAL

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The University of Tennessee at Martin tennis team emerged victorious in 18 of its 21 decisions to cap off another dominant fall effort at the Redhawk Invitational on Saturday.

The Skyhawks competed against host Southeast Missouri and William Woods University, posting a 12-2 mark in singles and a 6-1 record in doubles competition. Sarah Candeloro (4-0), Asel Jumamukhambetova (4-0), Elina Geut (4-0) and Andrea Plantada Cortes (3-0) each went undefeated for UT Martin.

The Skyhawks swept William Woods, going a perfect 10-0 against the NAIA school located in Fulton, Mo. The No. 1 doubles team of Candeloro and Jemima Potter won 6-4 over Paige Smith and Ziata Shuraeva while Burcu Tari/Jumamukhambetova (No. 2 against Alba Salinas/Felicia Cesar) and Geut/Olha Burak (No. 3 against Anna Braack/Giorgia Simontini) each posted 6-0 victories.

In singles play, Candeloro earned a 6-4, 6-1 win over Karyna Sagalai at No. 1. Jumamukhambetova was responsible for a 6-2, 6-0 triumph at No. 2 against Salinas while Tari dialed up a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Cesar at No. 3. Potter (6-2, 6-2 at No. 4) and Plantada Cortes (6-1, 6-1 at No. 5) accounted for wins over Shuraeva and Braack, respectively. At No. 6, Geut tallied a 6-2, 6-2 victory against Simontini while Burak came away with a 6-2, 6-3 win against Smith at No. 7.

Against Ohio Valley Conference foe Southeast Missouri, UT Martin went 3-1 in doubles and 5-2 in singles. Candeloro and Potter pulled away for a 6-2 doubles win at No. 1 over Isaballa Krupa/Oleksandra Doroshenko. At No. 3, Plantada Cortes and Jumamukhambetova earned a 6-2 win against Mila Majtan/Annisa Warasanti while Burak and Geut joined forces for a 6-3 triumph over Ana Canahuate-Torres/Joanne Hollings at No. 4.

Candeloro tallied a 6-1, 6-2 win against Kseniya Zonova at No. 1 singles while Jumamukhambetova shined during a 6-1, 7-6 (10) victory over Krupa at No. 2. Plantada Cortes came from behind to earn a 1-6, 6-3, 1-0 (2) win against Majtan at No. 4 as Tari posted a No. 5 triumph against Anais Emelie (6-4, 6-0). Geut then put the finishing touches on her perfect weekend with a hard-fought 6-2, 7-5 victory over Canahuate-Torres at No. 6.

The Skyhawks return to action this week when it travels to Murfreesboro, Tenn. for the ITA Regionals on Oct. 20-24.
