October 4, 2016
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – University of Tennessee at Martin junior quarterback Troy Cook was recognized today by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association as this week’s Offensive Player of the Week following his standout performance at Tennessee State.
A native of Miami, Fla., Cook posted career highs in his third start of the season, notching new personal bests in completions (27), attempts (39), yards (318) and touchdowns (four). While taking on one of the nation’s top defensive units, Cook exited with an injury late in the fourth quarter before returning on the same drive to throw his fourth touchdown – a 20-yard strike – on his first play back to give the Skyhawks a 30-27 lead with two minutes to play. He also led an offensive unit which converted on 10-of-12 third-down opportunities, including big plays of 10 or more yards on seven occasions.
On the season, Cook leads the Ohio Valley Conference with a 180.1 passer efficiency while completing 58-of-93 attempts for 912 yards and 13 touchdowns.
Cook and the Skyhawks will look to wrap up the Sgt. York Trophy series with a homecoming matchup against Austin Peay on Saturday, Oct. 8. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
