October 2, 2016
MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin volleyball team continues its Ohio Valley Conference slate with an upcoming split week, as the Skyhawks host Southeast Missouri at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 4 before heading to Tennessee Tech at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8.
UT Martin (4-15, 0-4 Ohio Valley Conference) is searching for its first conference victory of the season as Tuesday’s match wraps up a three-game homestand. The Skyhawks have won three straight home matchups against Southeast Missouri, including last year’s 3-0 decision which contributed to UT Martin’s season sweep of the Redhawks for the first time since 2010.
The Skyhawks are coming off a pair of tough four-set losses to SIUE and Eastern Illinois over the weekend. Jemima Idemudia collected team-highs of 27 kills (3.38 per set), a .231 attack percentage and 12 blocks (1.50 per set) while Macy Reigelsperger ranked second on the team in both kills (19) and digs (17). Colleen Larson headed UT Martin defensively, tallying 34 digs (4.25 per set) – including a career-best 22 scoops against Eastern Illinois on Saturday.
Southeast Missouri (2-16, 1-3 OVC) snapped a 15-match losing streak with a home sweep over Eastern Illinois on Friday. The Redhawks then pushed SIUE on Saturday before dropping a five-set decision. Krissa Gearring ranks first in the OVC in both kills (301, 4.49 per set) and points (326.0, 4.87 per set) while Jade Mortimer guides the Southeast Missouri defense with a league-high 321 digs (4.79 per set).
Tennessee Tech (5-12, 1-3 OVC) won its conference opener against Eastern Kentucky but has since lost three straight league matchups, including a pair of road losses (3-2 at Tennessee State, 3-1 at Belmont) last week. Shaneice James leads the OVC with a .331 attack percentage and Shealene Little (team-high 2.75 kills per set) guide the offense while Kennedy Wade (4.26 digs per set) shores up the Golden Eagles defensively.
