MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin equestrian team boasted several noteworthy performances this afternoon but defending national champion Auburn was able to claim a 14-6 win at the Ned McWherter Agricultural Pavilion.
The Skyhawks secured three team points in Hunt Seat and three team points in Western, including a 3-2 head-to-head win in reining.
In equitation on the flat, Lauren Kinney earned a win with an 81-point effort. Randi LaChance also picked up a team point after tallying 80 points.
Monica Zoromski continued her hot start to the season in equitation over fences, as she had a 94-point outing to earn a team point. LaChance also compiled 91 points but was edged out by a MOP effort from Auburn’s Becky Kozma.
The Skyhawks had five solid performances in horsemanship but Auburn – who is currently ranked No. 1 in the nation – was able to sweep the category.
UT Martin showed the most improvement from last week in reining, accounting for three of the five team points that were awarded. Bobbie Piddock was crowned as MOP after a 70.5-point outing. Liana Nowak (69 points) and Madeline Williams (68.5 points) also edged their Tiger counterparts to give the Skyhawks a team point.
UT Martin returns to competition on Saturday, Oct. 22 when it travels to the Peach State for a pair of matchups against current No. 2 Georgia and No. 10 New Mexico State.
