MARTIN, Tenn. – This weekend marks the first two home conference matches of the year for the University of Tennessee at Martin women’s soccer team. The Skyhawks will host the Austin Peay Governors on Friday, before welcoming the defending Ohio Valley Conference champions Murray State on Sunday afternoon.
UT Martin (3-7, 0-2 OVC) will be looking to bounce back from a couple of tough opening weekend losses on the road at SIUE and Eastern Illinois. Saphyra Coombs-James (8) and Danae Kaldaridou (6) are the leaders in points for UT Martin, as the return to Skyhawk Field comes at a perfect time for the Skyhawks who are looking to continue their home dominance in conference play. UT Martin is 11-5-2 in home conference matches dating back to 2013, and have earned points in three consecutive regular season OVC contests in Martin.
The Skyhawks own an 11-3-1 all-time record against Austin Peay including a 6-1 record at Skyhawk Field. The Governors (6-4, 1-0 OVC) come into the contest led by the OVC’s goal-scoring leader, forward Kristin Robertson. The junior from Ashland City, Tenn. is pacing Austin Peay, averaging 1.70 points per game, and notching eight goals on 25 shots. The Governors have used both Mary Parker Powell and Lindsey Todd in net this season, with Todd leading the goalkeeping duo with a 0.96 GAA and a record of 4-0.
The Skyhawks will turn their attention to reigning OVC regular season and OVC tournament champions Murray State (2-4-1, 1-0 OVC) on Sunday. The Skyhawks are 2-2 head-to-head against the Racers in their past four contests in Martin. Murray State is paced by Harriet Withers, who ranks first in shots attempted in the OVC with 33. Alex Steigerwald leads the goalkeepers in games started for the Racers, sporting a 1-3-1 record and one clean sheet.
Kickoff against Austin Peay is scheduled for this Friday, Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. UT Martin will then host the Racers Sunday, Oct. 2. That game is slated for a 2 p.m. start. Both contests can be seen live on the OVC Digital Network or the games can be tracked via live stats by following the links above.
