SKYHAWK EQUESTRIAN PLAYS HOST TO NO. 4 TEXAS A&M IN SEASON OPENER ON FRIDAY

MARTIN, Tenn. – The 11th season of competition for the University of Tennessee at Martin equestrian team begins on Friday, Sept. 23 with a noon matchup against No. 4 Texas A&M at the Ned McWherter Agricultural Pavilion.
The season-opener is one of four home dates for the Skyhawks in 2016-17, a slate that also includes matchups against defending national champion and preseason No. 1 Auburn on Sept. 29, Miami (Ohio) on Nov. 18 and Minnesota-Crookston on March 3.
Head coach Meghan Corvin, who has led UT Martin to the postseason nine different times, will preside over a roster that boasts 12 returners and nine newcomers. In Hunterseat, the Skyhawks return seven riders while welcoming in five freshmen while five returners and four freshmen will suit up for UT Martin in the Western discipline.
The top Hunterseat returners include Claire Ottinger (team-high six points, two MOP’s in equitation on the flat), Ally Scholefield (three points in equitation over fences) and Monica Zoromski (two points in equitation over fences). In Western competition, Madeline Williams (six total points, two MOP’s) leads the returners while Brittany Woodard (four points in horsemanship) and Megan Aiosa (two points) will look to build off strong 2015-16 campaigns.
Texas A&M is ranked No. 4 nationally in the preseason NCEA polls after reaching the NCEA semifinals last season. Tana McKay is in her 17th season at the helm while the Aggie coaching staff also includes Caroline Cramer Postoak, who accumulated 46 wins and 20 MOP’s in her Skyhawk equestrian career before graduating from UT Martin in 2012.
